The strength of the Ardno Hereford Stud is based on a productive cow herd. 260 Hereford and Poll Hereford females are joined to calve in autumn and are run under commercial conditions. Females are joined for 8 weeks to ensure a compact calving season, which is an indication of the herd’s fertility. Calves are weighed and tattooed at birth.

The Ardno Female herd has proven its ability to succeed both in the paddock, show and sale rings. Ardno Marinda, Corisande, Bonnie Maid, Marshall Lass, Gladiola and Happy Day female lines have consistently breed true to type for more than 70 years.

The Marinda family have been particularly successful with Ardno Marinda 67th producing Dynamic and Ardno Marinda 970th (N440) producing Marinda 1061 the Junior Champion Heifer at Melbourne in 2000 and Ardno Zeffer for $32,000. Both cows passed away at the ripe old age of 14 years old.

In 1961 Ardno Gladiola 41st by Vern Imperious was awarded Reserve Junior Champion Female at Sydney Royal and went onto win Senior and Grand Champion Female at both the Sydney and Melbourne Royal Shows in 1965 and 1966.

More recently in 2006 Ardno Hereford Stud purchased 70 joined Heatherdale Poll Hereford heifers with calves at foot. This gave Ardno the opportunity to buy a line of quality cattle from one stud and who have been using straight Poll bloodlines for 50 years.

Ardno Females are productive cattle in all conditions. This is demonstrated by their femininity, fertility, milking ability and overall quality.
