The Ardno Hereford Stud is a family run and owned Hereford stud where both Horned and Poll Genetics are used to produce seed stock for the “efficient and profit driven cattleman”.

The Ardno Hereford stud was established in 1937 by the McEachern Family in Strathdownie Victoria. The stud has a rich history of producing well-bred genetics right throughout southern and northern Australia.

In 2015 the Ardno Hereford Stud was purchased by the Cleves family and is now located in the prime grazing country of Mt Gambier South Australia. In 2014 the Cleves family also purchased 16 South Boorook Stud Cows which will now be incorporated into the Ardno Stud’s female herd.  Before purchasing the stud the family has had a reputation for breeding quality commercial Hereford cattle.

The Cleves family operate their cattle business on property’s located at Mt Gambier, Penola, Nelson and Nene Valley and currently run 1,000 commercial Hereford breeders, as well as 130 Ardno stud cows.

The aim of the commercial cattle business is ultimately a paddock to plate operation where steers are grass fed fattened to 600kg live weight at 22 months of age.  Through an arrangement with Teys Australia, the prime cuts are purchased back and served at the family’s award winning steak house “The Barn” located 7 kms south of Mt Gambier.

We offer a selection of quality Hereford and Poll Hereford bulls each year for private sale. Our bulls are fertility tested and ready to work.

In the future we hope that we can offer all Ardno Clients the opportunity to work with us to supply our award winning steakhouse with quality Hereford beef.
