Welcome to Ardno Herefords online. 260 females are joined each year and are run under commercial conditions and compete with a Merino flock in a 22” (580mm) rainfall. We select for conformation, milking ability, temperament, growth for age, and productive cattle that convert grass into quality meat.
We are celebrating our 51st annual Bull Sale and would like to thank our many supporters over the years and look forward to suppling you with quality Ardno bloodlines in the future.
2009 News
- 2009 proved to be one of Ardno’s most exciting years with the 50th bull sale averaging $5,800 and the top bulls going to studs: ‘Ardno Czech’ sold for $25,000 to Newcomen Hereford Stud, Ensay, Ardno Calypso sold to Red Hill Hereford Stud for $21,000 and Ardno Concave to Beggan Hill Hereford Stud NSW for $13,000.
- The Stock and Land ‘Win an Ardno Heifer’ competition saw Ardno Cora sail to Tasmania and will no doubt breed on.
- New acquisitions include Hollow Point Broker, Foxforth Blake and Sheldon Park Benjamin. The first male Mawarra Sandstorm progeny will be offered at this year’s sale.
- At the Royal Geelong Show Ardno was placed 1st and 2nd in the Bull Classic.
- 2009 was also a wonderful Hereford year with cracking sales in QLD with averages of $8,000 which is a clear indication that they are in demand.
- Wallan Creek Hereford Stud also won the Interbreed Championship at the Rockhampton Beef Expo against 2,000 head of cattle and the Herefords were placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the pen of 3 carcass competitions out of 17 pens!
- Hereford Prime has also secured a BBQ on Australia Day that will cater for 100,000 people in Sydney.
2008 News
Ardno Burr - Purchased by
Brendan Fitzgerland for $13,000
- At the 49th Annual Sale, Ardno Burr topped the sale at $13,000 for another Mawarra Oasis son who was knocked down to Brendan Fitzgerald of ‘Tarcoola Hereford Stud’. 26 Hereford Bulls averaged $4,750 and 13 Poll Hereford Bulls topped at $9,000 sold to Jane Leak ‘Bahreenah Poll Hereford’ stud NSW and averaged $3,346.
- 3 Queensland Bulls were purchased at the Southern Cross Sale at ‘Jackson’ in September. Devon Court Sharka for $8,000, Talbalba B079 (View Photo) for $10,000 in Partnership with Cootharaba Hereford Stud and Talbalba Vampire (View Photo) for $17,000.
- Other great news includes the first calves by Mawarra Sandstorm and a Coach load of South American Farmers dropping in to see what we do.
- Ardno Calypso by Fauland Legion was placed 2nd in the Junior Male Interbreed class at Geelong show and went on to win the Junior Bull Classic.
- We are Celebrating our 50th Bull Sale on the 26th of March 2009, and are looking forward to catching up with many new and old friends. 18 of the Sale Bulls are ranked in the top 10% and Higher for all Growth Traits in the Breed. 30 Hereford and 18 Poll Hereford Bulls (Heatherdale Bloodlines) will be offered as well as a selection of Heatherdale raising two year old Bulls.
2007 News
- The 48th Annual Sale in March saw a Mawarra Oasis son, ‘Ardno Action 2’ (View Photo) sell to Reedy Creek Hereford Stud for $22,000. The 2 year old sire weighed 1142 kg’s on the day. 37 bulls sold for an Ave of $4128, a great result for a devastating drought.
- Mawarra Sandstorm (Photo Right) was purchased at the National Show and Sale at Wodonga in partnership with Barry Newcomen and New Zealand studs for $52,000. Semen has been sold to 11 other studs in Vic, NSW, WA and SA.
- At the National Poll Hereford Show and Sale in Dubbo we purchased 2 new sires, Yalgoo Busker (A211) and Chalky Casper (A31) which will by represented by Bulls in the 2010 Sale. In August a Russian Delegation purchased 10 Poll Hereford Bull calves for their new breeding program. View photo of Russian Delegation
